We received a phone call from the office the next day, they thought we hadn’t arrived (you could see us from their window) to check on us, offer/remind us if not coming, to cancel and possibly get some money refunded, this also would open the site back up for someone else. This is done for everyone not just late check-ins. We arrived late, found a big sign that stated RESERVATIONS ONLY… confused as the confirmation email said we needed to have a copy of our reservation, why? What you are supposed to do is go directly to your site where you will find a place card on the site post with your name and checkout date and in a plastic bag, your hang-tag and map/rules of the campground. Stay of 4 nights cost $84 with the senior discount which does not discount the electric, but still, $21 a night is a great price. We had reserved site B33, electric & water, close to the very clean and modern restroom & shower house (outdoor type)… maybe too close as some folks chose to walk thru our site to get there, one person actually walked between the picnic table and our camper. We would definitely camp here again especially in the off-season! We actually put booties on her when we walked on the dune trails in the B loop. No where near as many stickers in the lower end of the C loop. The tent loop and north section of B loop have lot of little stickers which we had to pull out of our dog's paws. Speaking of across the street, best to look on Google Earth to see where the dump station is as it is across the street by the sportfishing boats. We did have some noise from the highway and some from the building they were roofing across the street. There is no privacy between sites (no foliage) and some sites are closer to others, but we loved it. In the off-season, there is no 14 day stay limit! Nice access to the beach, nice ranger & camphosts and lots to see & do within an hour. With rain incoming, we then added several nights in C-19 to have power and water ($21 with senior pass). We started out in a dry camping site C-8 for 4 or so nights ($14 with senior pass) - it was right up against the dunes, so we had a lot of sand in our site and trailer (courtesy of dog). I wouldn’t want to come back here, I’d rather go down to Hatteras and stay at the Cape Point CG, it’s just a lot more pleasant. They were pretty chilly when we went, so we used our RV. The bathrooms were clean, but the showers were barely tolerable. But it wasn’t too crowded when we went and there are a couple of stations. You go across the street for dumping, although I don’t know how they can regulate non-campers using it. I didn’t think the sites were that close together, I’ve seen a lot worse, they were more spacious than most, but with no trees, and the beach, the sound carries and you could hear almost everything. It was pretty loud the week we were there. They are hard to get out (wet your fingers before you try, it usually helps) and even months after we left, we were still finding them in our clothes, shoes, car, etc. We’re used to prickly things, there are large ones at Lake Pleasant in AZ, but they don’t really hurt you. The biggest issue is every time you step out of your trailer, you will get 10-12 goat-heads on you. Go slow, the rangers are out and will ticket you for going a mile over the speed limit. You can buy a week pass for $50 to drive on the beach. If it’s not, the beach is very pleasant, but always busy with fisherman. And you may get blown away on the beach if it’s windy. You do get a lot of wind, so be careful with your awning. It was pleasant weather most of the time, so no need for air conditioning. That didn’t really bother us, we had our generators and had no issues with that. Only a few sites have electric here, and they are very strict on even sharing electric, even if no one is using it. Cape Point Campground, closer to Hatteras, is much nicer, although no electric. Yes, you are right next to the beach, which is cool, but after coming from Delaware Seashore Park, which was absolutely amazing, this was a disappointment.
